Black Caviar, an unbeaten five-year-old Thoroughbred mare, was named Australian Racehorse of the Year at a recent awards ceremony held in Melbourne. Black Caviar, who has won almost $3.5 million dollars, was also chosen as champion sprinter and most popular racehorse.
Other honors went to Sepoy as champion two-year-old; Star Witness as champion three-year-old colt or gelding; and Shamrocker as champion three-year-old filly. Champion middle distance horse was So You Think, while Americain was named champion stayer (longer distance runner).
